Rallying/Racing News - 13th June 2010
Third in class, but Dukeries Rally stunned by the death of driver.
Yesterday I competed on the Dukeries Rally based at Southwell Racecourse and I finished 3rd in class. I also finished 56th overall from 127 starters (81 whom finished) and 13th in the 1400 class of cars. The morning stages of the rally didn't go so well, as the car was suffering from a slipping clutch, and this slipped me down to 5th in class before the midday service halt. At the service halt, the Rallyschool team quickly rectified the problem and I went into the afternoon stages determined to improve my position. This I did and by the end of the rally I had moved up to 3rd.
The rally was overshadowed by an accident which claimed the life of fellow driver 32 year old Martyn Lewis. The accident meant that stage 7 was cancelled and everyone was re-routed to stage 8. The Awards Ceremony was also cancelled as a mark of respect. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Martyn's family.
I still have an uphill task for the rest of the season in that with only 3 more rallies, I need to score well in each. I'm quite positive about the remaining rallies, all of which are in Wales, as I always do well in the Welsh Hills.

My Co-Driver was Joe Cruttenden for the rally and the 1400 VW Lupo was prepared by John Goff and the Rallyschool team (www.rallyschool.co.uk) based in Shropshire.
My next event will be on the 10th July 2010 and will be the Quinton Rally based at Llandovery, Wales.
Bye for now
