Rallying/Racing News - 18th October 2009
Matt Griffin - BTRDA Rally First Class RF1.4 Driver Winner.
I finished the Rally First championship by finishing:
BTRDA Rally First Overall - 2nd
BTRDA Rally First Class RF1.4 - 2nd
(But in the rules, because Dave Bennett has won the overall championship I get to win the class)
BTRDA under 25's - 3rd
BTRDA Junior - 2nd
It feels great to have won the class especially as it has been a very competitive season with many ups and downs.
As for the Cambrian Rally which I competed on yesterday it was another new event for me and it used the famous welsh forests of Clocaenog and Penmachno, both used previously in the RAC Rally. The rally started and finished at its base at Llandudno and I finished 12th in class and 115 overall out of 166 starters. The reason for my worst result this year was my 5th tyre failure of the year, 9 miles into the 16 mile last stage (Clocaenog). I was up to 4th going into the stage but the while changing the wheel the car fell of the jack twice, causing much time delay. My main competition for the BTRDA Rally First Class RF1.4 was Chris Jones in the other Rallyschool Lupo, but he went off on the 3rd stage and wasn't't able to continue.

Thanks as usual to Joe Cruttenden for being my Co-Driver for the Cambrian rally and for the 2009 season. Many thanks to my mentor John Goff who's help and advise has been invaluable, and thanks also to the Rallyschool team who have expertly prepared the car throughout the season.
As for the future who knows .....I'd like to compete on the Rally First to be able to win the overall championship which I've just missed out on this year, but John Goff is trying to organise a Mazda 2 Championship which also sounds very exiting.
Bye for now
