One to One Session at Silverstone.

Yesterday I attended a one to one race driving session at the Silverstone Motorsport Academy. My instructor for the session was Robin Webster, who has driven in various areas of motorsport more specifically the British GT Championship and Formula Renault. The car I drove was a Lotus Exige which seemed to have a lot more grip and speed than the Lotus Elise that I drove last year.

After having a chat about why I was there, Robin took me around the South Circuit at Silverstone for a couple of laps, then it was my turn. Robin as a great instructor, once he realised I wasn't a novice, he encouraged me to go faster. After about 8 laps we stopped and he pointed out some of the things I was doing wrong. When we set of again I felt a lot more confident and put into practice what he had told me. Thing went well, but at one corner Robin encouraged me to go a bit to fast and I ended up sideways on the track. That was my only real mistake of the session and the rest of the time went well. At the end we swapped seats and Robin showed me how it should be done by driving a couple more laps. Next he explained how well I had done in some area's such as Steering, throttle control and cornering, but also pointed out that I need to spend some time working on clutch and gear change technique. I left Silverstone a lot more confident and now I have to decide whether to concentrate on circuit racing or rallying.

You can see a video of my day at the Silverstone Motorsport Academy if you click here Race Video.

Bye for now.
