Recently I had a test drive in the new to UK, 125cc TAG Easy Kart. The test drive was organised by Club 100 and allowed me to have 2, 30 minute sessions in the kart. The kart was fantastic and was on a different level to any kart I had driven before. It was very responsive, had a good acceleration and the brakes were very sharp.

Easy Kart's are built by Birel and the philosophy behind the kart is that its relatively cheep to buy and maintain, with very few adjustments that can be applied to the kart, so the racing will be more even. There are already successful championships in America, Italy and other countries so the concept is not new. Its the equivalent of a one make championship in car racing, with strict rules on how the kart can be set up.

I was very impressed by the kart, the ideas behind it and the setup of the championship which is due to start March 2007. I will have to weigh up the pros and cons of buying the kart and running it against some of the other motorsport projects I might consider in the future i.e. Rallying.
