Karting News - 19th Febuary 2006
2006 Covkartsport Winter Series - Races 3 and 4. Plus 3 Sisters GP Race.
5th on Saturday and 5th on Sunday.
To say I had a bad weekends racing would be the understatement of the year so far.
On Saturday I had Karting GP race at Three Sisters. I won my three heats and qualified 1st in the 'A' final. In the final I got a good start, but at Lunar bend I made a mistake, the kart got hit from behind and this caused the kart to get loads of under steer which resulted in me heading for the outside of the corner. The organisers had put some road salt on the corner to defrost the track, but knowing this made me slow down to avoid skidding off. This allowed most of the other drivers to pass me and that was the end of my race(I finish 5th).
Sundays racing down at Sutton Elms as part of the Covkartsport Winter Series for Senior Lights was no less eventful. The track was very wet and greasy and was being run anticlockwise. In the timed qualifying I finished 5th, which was OK as this would give me a high grid position in my second race. In the first race I was gridded 5th, and the race went well and I finished 3rd. In my second race I was gridded 3rd, but I knew this was not going to be as easy as the first race. I had a reasonable start even though I lost a place which I gained back at the hairpin. On the next lap, everyone had bunched up and again at the hairpin there must have been 6 kart's trying to get around the hairpin in 1st. I ended up getting pushed out at the back. I managed to gain the places back during the next lap as others fell off the track. I was challenging for 2nd place on the penultimate lap and I went for the inside line on a left hander. Either I wasn't quick enough or the guy in second didn't see me and well I think you can guess the rest....... grass, rain and slick tyres don't make for a good combination. I managed to recover from this coming together and I luckily ended the race in 4th.
I must look back at this weekend and put it down to experience. Before this weekend I had this flu bug which is doing the rounds and also I have to now start thinking about the GCSE's that I'm taking in May/June. I know this sounds like an excuse but they are genuine reasons. I cant win anything in this championship now, so I must look ahead to the main Championship starting in April and between now and then get as much practice in as possible.
The next race meeting is on the 19th March and details of this result and previous Race Results for 2006.
Cheers.
