2006 Covkartsport Winter Series - Races 1 and 2.
A day of 2 Races, just about sums up what happened for me at the first Covkartsport Winter series race meeting at Suton Elms.
I did well in the 15 minute qualifying session, finishing 1st in the group I was in. This then put me 1st on the grid in the 1st of the 2 races I was to compete in.
For this race meeting the organisers decide to have rolling starts, which I hadn't done before. It went well and I maintained the lead until the 3rd lap when Jordan Fitzpatrick took me on the approach to the first right hander after the start. I stayed right behind him for a couple of laps waiting for my chance and it eventually came on the exit from the hairpin where Jordan put his right wheels on the grass which slowed him enough for me to get past. I then held the lead until the chequered flag and won the race.
The unfortunate result of winning the 1st race meant that I would have to start from the back in my 2nd race. I was gridded in 8th and as the race began I realised that the kart I was in was not fast enough. I managed at one point to get up to 4th, through the misfortune of others, but they all came passed me as I couldn't maintain the speed. There was also a lot of bumping and blocking going on in this race which allowed the front runners to get ahead. I finish a disappointing 7th, but thats racing as some people say.
I must use this race meeting as a wake up call, learn from it and put it behind me. The next race meeting is on the 9th February and even my Dad is thinking of having a go, that's if he can find a race suit big enough.
Details of this result and previous Race Results for 2006.
Cheers.
