2006 News...

Rallying/Racing News - 11th January 2006
Rally Training at a Rally School in Shropshire.

Last Sunday I had my first taste of rallying for some time and it was great. The day started of with some introductions and what we were hoping to achieve. There was 4 of us on the junior course, another lad about my age and 2 younger lads. The instructor was called John and he knew everything there is to know about rallying.

We used a Ford Focus rally car and once we had been shown the controls and various pieces of equipment the rally car had to contain, we straight into the driving. We had 2 sessions on a concreted area so John could see what we could do. This went well and he showed us how to perform handbrake turns around a series of bollards. After about half an hour this handbrake turns seemed to be the natural way to take a 360 corner.

After the sessions around the bollards, we moved onto the small rally stage the rally school had set up. This was the best for me as I drove the car remembering everything I had been taught earlier.

John said I had done well and I could progress to the more advanced courses as he had now seen what I could do. I was later presented with a certificate and awarded the driver of the day prize with a mark of 77.

Cheers.
