Thruxton, Covkartsport Junior Championship Race, 5th June 2005 - Fantastic!

Thruxton is a fantastic karting circuit which suited my driving style completely. I was 8th on the grid in my 1st race and I had an excellent start passing 5 driver at the first corner. This was partly because everyone went wide into the corner so I went in tight and braked late. For the next 6 laps I tried several times to take 2nd but was blocked. On the last lap, 2 corners from the end the driver in front went wide and I took my chance and finish the race in 2nd.

It start to rain just before my 2nd race, and I was 3rd on the grid. I had another good start and moved into second at the first corner. I stayed right behind the 1st place driver for a couple of laps. He then made a mistake so I took a chance moved into 1st place. I then proceeded to dominate the race and created a good lead finishing in 1st, a good distance from the 2nd placed driver.

It was still raining but not as hard for my 3rd race, and I was again 3rd on the grid. I had another good start and took the lead at the first corner. I held the lead for 4 laps and and I knew the 2nd placed driver was right behind me. I defended the best I could but in the end I lost the lead. I know its easy to blame the kart, but I wasn't getting any grip from the front tyres. I crossed the finish line in 2nd place and then I had a nervous hour and a half wait until they announced the overall points winner for the day. The top three drivers including myself, had the same points total, so the positions were determined by fastest lap time and I was placed 3rd. I'm now 5th, with 175 points, in the Junior Championship and 8th in the overall Covkartsport Championship which is the championship for all categories of drivers put together. The next race meeting is at Glan-y-gors on the 10th July 2005.
